Levy to begin post-Postecoglou era at Tottenham with statement £30m transfer
Daniel Levy is under pressure to turn Tottenham’s fortunes around following a wretched Premier League season.
The club have succumb to a new low of 20 league losses this campaign, a record which is likely to be extended with Friday’s (16 May) daunting trip to Villa Park to face Aston Villa.
A Europa League final awaits the Lilywhites, but even the prospect of lifting a long-awaited trophy would not paper over the cracks.
Levy will be aware that this season’s failings do not fall solely on Ange Postecoglou‘s shoulders, as this season highlighted deeper issues surrounding the squad’s ability to handle multiple competitions.

Tottenham lead race for Monaco star Vanderson
Postecoglou’s troubles, especially in the league, can be somewhat attributed to rotten luck with injuries, with Dejan Kulusevski the latest to find himself on the treatment table.
It has highlighted the need for summer reinforcements, encouraging Levy to start planning ahead of time.
The club have targeted Monaco’s fullback Vanderson as a key component of their rebuild and are now favourites to land the Brazilian, according to GiveMeSport (15 May).
The French side, who could once again qualify for the Champions League, have the player locked down for another three years and are thought to be holding out for a fee of around £30million.
It is claimed that Tottenham are now the side leading the way for Vanderson’s signature, seemingly not put off by his hefty price tag.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
Ligue 1 | 29 | 1 | 3 | 2,082 |
Champions League | 9 | – | 2 | 781 |
Coupe de France | 2 | 1 | – | 180 |
Vanderson, 23, has been capped five times by Brazil and would bring excitement and energy to the right-back position, which has been overly reliant on Pedro Porro this season.

Levy making statement ahead of new season
Levy will be aware that, should he sack Postecoglou, question marks will return to his desk after yet another failed project.
The constant chopping and changing, including Fabio Paratici’s mooted return, would make his task to sell the job to a prospective replacement increasingly difficult.
One of the ways he could convince managers to join is through a positive transfer market in which the club show a willingness to significantly improve the squad and continue to develop the young side.
A statement signing of a player of Vanderson’s calibre early in the summer window could be a signal of Levy’s intent to address and improve the situation at Tottenham ahead of the 2025/26 season.
