Levy to be frustrated after Son Heung-min exit decision at Tottenham

Son Heung-min is set to leave Tottenham this summer after almost 10 years in North London.

Son’s name has been synonymous with Spurs ever since his arrival, with the South Korean consistently proving to be a reliable source of goals and assists for the Lilywhites.

His potential departure would likely see decision-makers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium return to the market, after signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham earlier in the window.

Joao Palhinha is also set to join Spurs in the coming days, with the midfielder reportedly having completed his medical ahead of a loan move.

Levy to miss out on cash influx

Son confirmed to the media in Seoul on Saturday (2 August) that he intends to leave Tottenham this summer.

The forward expressed the difficulty of the decision, but explained that he would like to experience a new environment after a decade in the Premier League.

Son’s decision was likely made easier by Spurs’ UEFA Europa League win in May, which marked the 33-year-old’s first opportunity to lift silverware since his arrival in 2015.

The winger is reportedly keen on a move to MLS side Los Angeles FC, who are pushing hard for his signature.

According to The Athletic (2 August), Spurs have also received interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, who are prepared to offer more money for the 33-year-old.

But Son is eager to move to the MLS, and Tottenham will not attempt to change the veteran’s mind, with a smooth exit desired in recognition of his impact at the club.

Son’s preference will likely leave a slightly bitter taste for Daniel Levy, however, who would have been keen to enjoy the fruits of the Saudi Public Investment Funds’ willingness to pay big money for star names.

Son’s departure signals the end of an era

In their eight years together, Harry Kane and Son were the dynamic duo at the face of everything positive in a Spurs shirt.

They were the forwards forever capable of finding big goals, and always Spurs’ representation in discussions over the best players in the Premier League.

While Kane left two years ago, the departure of Son will really mark the end of an era in North London.

Thomas Frank will be the man tasked with overseeing the next one that he and Spurs fans will hope proves more successful.
