‘Levy can now bring Crystal Palace star to Tottenham’ as Wharton update drops

Daniel Levy is committed to supporting Thomas Frank at Tottenham this summer.

The Spurs Chairman has already brought four players to North London in the current transfer window, and that likely would have been five had Nottingham Forest not delayed a move for Morgan Gibbs-White.

However, of the new arrivals, only Mohammed Kudus has more than 16 Premier League appearances under their belt.

Frank is keen to add more top-flight experience to his young squad, and will hope Levy can secure a major signing from Crystal Palace to improve his options following an update on Adam Wharton.

Wharton is happy to stay at Palace for another year

Tottenham have been considering signing Wharton as Frank lacks a specialist defensive midfielder.

Despite being only 21 years old, the former Blackburn man has quickly established himself as one of the best number sixes in the Premier League, attracting the attention of many top European clubs.

However, as reported by The Sun (19 July), Wharton is happy to spend another year with Palace, making it more likely that he will go on to join Liverpool next summer.

The Eagles are unwilling to let the England international leave this summer, as they are anticipating losing both Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze before the end of the transfer window.

The door closing on Wharton will be a bitter blow for Spurs, but it solidifies their chances of signing Eze, as Oliver Glasner’s side are planning for his departure.

Tottenham have a long-standing interest in the 27-year-old attacking midfielder, and were favourites to secure his signature at one point during this window before Arsenal looked to step in.

However, the Gunners’ interest has slowed, and with Tottenham’s pursuit of Gibbs-White at a standstill and Palace planning for his departure, Levy could now go all out to finally bring Eze to N17.

Eze would answer Tottenham’s need to unlock defences

Part of the thinking behind signing Kudus and approaching Gibbs-White is that Frank is very keen to add more creativity to his attacking lineup.

Spurs have a plethora of attacking players, but only James Maddison and arguably Pedro Porro could be relied upon to create something out of nothing in a tight game last season.

This is Eze’s bread and butter. The England international’s dribbling abilities and vision have seen him become Crystal Palace’s star man. The talented midfielder would boost Spurs’ ability to unlock defences, and would undoubtedly help Frank’s side thrive.
