Keane expects star player to exit amid scenes after Villa v Tottenham – ‘Big loss’

Roy Keane predicts a key player could be out the door in the Premier League after Tottenham’s defeat to Aston Villa.

Ange Postecoglou rested several of his big hitters ahead of the Europa League final against Manchester United at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday (21 May).

Tottenham did well to keep Villa at bay in the first half, Antonín Kinsky tipping a cross-shot behind and making several saves to deny Unai Emery’s side.

While the 59-year-old had his sights set on the final, Spurs supporters will be wanting a better performance next week.

Keane expects Emi Martinez to depart from Villa

While Wilson Odobert’s flick forced the Villa keeper into a save and Mikey Moore offered decent threat on the counter, Emi Martinez stood firm at the back.

Speaking on Sky Sports (16 May), Roy Keane said that the Argentine would be a big loss to the West Midlands team after he seemed to wave goodbye after the final home game of the season had ended.

Martinez was solid against Spurs

“He’s been a good character. Obviously, some people like him, he can obviously be annoying sometimes with his antics,” Keane said.

“But he’s been a great signing for them. He’d be a big loss for them because it does look like he’s saying his goodbyes.

Son disappoints again

The Spurs captain has had a difficult season with several injuries preventing him from hitting the form most know him capable of.

While he threatened on the counter-attack a few times against Villa, his performance was one best to be forgotten.

In what has become a trend for the South Korean this season, he picks the ball up on the left wing, drives it down in a move that looks dangerous, but then a moment of hesitation or poor decision making, and the once lively attack fizzles out.

Tottenham will play in their sixth European final in their history on Wednesday, and if there was ever a time for Son to step up to the plate, it is now.

If Spurs are to lift silverware this season, and with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski out for the season, it is all on the Tottenham skipper to lead his team to glory.
