Kane ‘one step closer to Tottenham return’ after major Bayern Munich news

Tottenham fans continue to dream that Harry Kane will one day return to North London.

Spurs’ record goalscorer left his boyhood club almost two years ago to move to German giants Bayern Munich in search of trophies.

The England captain secured the Bundesliga title at the second time of asking, scoring an impressive 26 goals and recording 10 assists in the league along the way.

Kane’s departure from Tottenham coincided with turmoil in North London following the dramatic end to Antonio Conte’s tenure.

However, with both parties now getting their hands on silverware, Kane may be more incentivised to make an emotional return to Tottenham, especially given the recent update emerging from Bavaria.

Tottenham were careful to insert various clauses when selling their record goalscorer, including having first refusal on Kane should he leave Bayern.

The 31-year-old has previously expressed that he is happy in Germany, though he still maintains good relations with his former club.

However, Kane’s comfort could be under threat as Fabrizio Romano has reported via X (29 June) that Bayern are preparing to bid for Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade.

The 23-year-old had an excellent debut season at Stuttgart and scored six goals on route to Germany’s 3-2 loss to England in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final (28 June).

While he has played most of the season as a second striker, he could threaten Kane’s position as the sole centre-forward at Bayern in Vincent Kompany’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system.

It could mean that Kane is one step closer to a sensational return to Tottenham, who would be desperate to have their icon back and need a striker to replace the outgoing Richarlison.

Kane’s return would undermine Dominic Solanke

While it would be difficult to imagine many people associated with Spurs being anything but excited to see England’s record goalscorer come back to Hotspur Way, it could seriously undermine Dominic Solanke.

The former Bournemouth striker has only just got his career in North London started, and is expected to be a vital cog in Thomas Frank’s system.

Should Kane return, Solanke would likely have to play second fiddle to his iconic international teammate, which would not be fair on the 27-year-old and could ultimately have longer-term ramifications for both the striker and Tottenham.
