Jonathan David contract demands revealed amid Tottenham interest

Tottenham are keen to bring a striker in the summer transfer window in a bid to reinforce the attack and view Jonathan David as an option.

Spurs signed Dominic Solanke last summer as they aimed to add competition to the striker position with Richarlison underperforming since his £60 million move from Everton.

However, Solanke too has failed to make a lasting impact in his debut season and has been plagued by injuries. One of the biggest reasons for Spurs’ downfall this term is underwhelming performances from their strikers.

The duo have a combined goal tally of just nine Premier League goals this season as both the strikers have remained sidelined for a significant period, missing 50 games collectively. To combat the lack of goalscoring, Spurs have recognised David as one of the summer targets.

David’s hefty contract demands

David is in the final few months of his contract at Lille and has decided to see out his contract, opting to have a fresh start at a new club next season. Tottenham were interested in the Canada international in January but David did not move away from the Ligue 1 club in winter.

Now on the verge of being a free agent, David is free to negotiate terms of a new contract with potential suitors and has a myriad of options lined up. Along with Tottenham and other English clubs, Serie A clubs like Juventus and Inter Milan are also keen on the 25-year-old.

According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, David’s contract demands have now been revealed. The Canadian demands an annual salary of £7.5million along with a signing bonus of £12.5million which doesn’t include the commission fees of around £8.35million.

If Spurs are to sign David, the total package would cost them around £28.35million, making it an expensive free transfer.

The report adds that these figures were acquired during David’s negotiations with Liverpool, indicating that the Reds are also in the chase of the 25-year-old.

David guarantees goals

Tottenham have been deprived of a regular goalscorer as Solanke and Richarlison both struggle at N17. David could help Spurs fill that void but his arrival won’t be cheap as Daniel Levy will have to fork out a significant sum to attract the Lille striker to North London.

Richarlison is likely to be sold this summer and the Lilywhites will need to bring in a new striker. David is quick, direct and guarantees goals and in turn, fits the bill at Tottenham.

The former Gent striker has been consistent in terms of his goalscoring, notching a minimum of 20 goals every season for the last three seasons. This season, David has 23 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions and is expected to add more to his goal tally before the season’s end.

If David can maintain that goalscoring consistency, the North Londoners should not think twice about signing the striker.
