‘James Maddison to be delighted’ after latest Tottenham transfer development
James Maddison faces increased competition for a place at Tottenham next season.
Maddison has become a fan favourite since he joined Tottenham from Leicester City two years ago. However, the midfielder’s time in North London has not been all smooth sailing.
The Englishman put up strong numbers last season, but a knee injury saw him miss the final few weeks of Spurs’ campaign, which meant he was forced to watch the UEFA Europa League final from the sidelines.
Tottenham have already signed Mohammed Kudus and are keen to add Morgan Gibbs-White to their ranks this summer, which could see Maddison phased out of Spurs’ strongest team.
Therefore, the 28-year-old is likely to be pleased after a recent development.

Nottingham Forest make legal complaint over Tottenham
As reported by The Sun on Monday (14 July), Nottingham Forest have now made their legal complaint over Spurs’ pursuit of Gibbs-White.
The Midlands club are claiming they did not permit Spurs to approach the midfielder. Furthermore, owner Evangelos Markinakis also wants to know how Daniel Levy knew about the £60million release clause in their talisman’s contract.
This has thrown a huge spanner in the works as Gibbs-White’s scheduled medical with Tottenham has been put on hold until the matter is resolved – if it is resolved.
Tottenham fans are said to be outraged over the saga, but Maddison is likely to be delighted with this new development.
Player | Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Morgan Gibbs-White | 2024/25 | 38 | 7 | 10 |
James Maddison | 2024/25 | 45 | 12 | 11 |
Indeed, the report also stated that Thomas Frank envisions Gibbs-White as the dynamic number 10 he wants in his team. This is similar to how Maddison operated under Ange Postecoglou and could indicate that Frank either has a different role for him, or he is not a huge feature in his plans.
As a result, the former Leicester midfielder may breathe a sigh of relief if Forest are successful with their claim against Tottenham and prevent Gibbs-White from moving to N17.

Maddison and Gibbs-White could work together
There may not be too much for Maddison to fret about, as both he and Gibbs-White could complement each other well.
Indeed, Frank could play both players in a double pivot, with the Forest man lining up as more of an advanced eight while the current Tottenham midfielder slots into that number 10 spot.
If the Dane can get this duo to work, Spurs could be a problem for most teams next season.
