James Maddison reacts as Tottenham finalise transfer deal

James Maddison made his feelings clear as Tottenham completed their second signing of the winter transfer window.

Conor Gallagher was Tottenham’s first addition of the month, moving to North London from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £34million.

Gallagher was poor on his first appearance for Spurs though, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham United, piling yet more pressure on Thomas Frank.

Frank’s side did get back to winning ways in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0, but the Dane is still eager to strengthen his squad.

Tottenham confirm signing of Souza from Santos

Tottenham confirmed the signing of Souza from Santos on Thursday evening, with the left-back joining in a deal worth £13m.

The 19-year-old made 24 appearances in the league for the Brazilian side last year, playing alongside the likes of Neymar.

Souza was spotted walking through the mixed zone after Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to West Ham, hinting that the move was close to completion.

The young defender has now been officially announced by the club, after penning a four-and-a-half year contract in North London.

In a post on their Instagram, Tottenham posted a photo of Souza’s new number 38 shirt, with the caption: “Introducing our new #38.”

Maddison, who is currently out injured, was quick to like the post and show support for his new teammate.

Tottenham eye second left-back signing after Souza

While Frank has insisted that Souza is ready to contribute to the first team right now, he will surely take time to settle in the Premier League.

With that in mind, Tottenham have made a surprise approach for Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, and are quickly advancing towards a deal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the North London side have already lodged an official bid and negotiations are underway.

Robertson’s contact expires at the end of the season, and Spurs had initially planned to pursue him on a free transfer in the summer.

However, after Ben Davies broke his ankle during the defeat to West Ham, they have accelerated their move for the Scotland international.
