Jack Grealish signs for Tottenham – Which player could Thomas Frank axe?
Thomas Frank will have a big decision to make if Jack Grealish arrives at Tottenham.
Grealish is a name that has been linked with Tottenham throughout the summer window.
The Englishman has had a difficult couple of years. From being a rising star at Aston Villa and breaking transfer records when he signed for Manchester City to accepting a peripheral role on Pep Guardiola’s side, Grealish has been through the wringer.
But like a phoenix born from the ashes, the England international is looking to revive his career. And it seems he could do so at Tottenham, even if that leaves Frank with a tough choice to make.
Mathys Tel could be axed by Frank
Finding someone to step aside in anticipation of Grealish is not a task most would wish to have. Tottenham is home to several talents who deserve their chance at achieving greatness.
However, with increased squad depth comes the issue of fairly distributing minutes. And sometimes this is not something that can be achieved without sidelining someone along the way.
With the departure of Son Heung-min, Mathys Tel appears to be the obvious choice to make way for Grealish.

The Frenchman has been sparingly used during pre-season by Frank, with the Dane opting to start Richarlison up top and either Brennan Johnson or Wilson Odobert on the left wing.
Based on the manager’s choices and pre-season alone, it seems that Frank has put his faith behind Odobert on the left wing.
Richarlison starting most games does not bode well for Tel either, as it indicates he could remain. With Dominic Solanke still to return from injury and the addition of Grealish on the left side, the Frenchman could find himself out of the loop next season.
Tottenham should steer clear of Grealish
Stunting Tel’s development in favour of bringing Grealish in would be a huge mistake.
The Englishman has struggled to compete at the top level in recent years, and that trend could continue at Spurs. Meanwhile, Tel is young, but he is someone who can thrive under the right management and environment.
After giving and experiencing everything with the club last season, the youngster deserves his fair shot. Therefore, Grealish is an avenue Spurs would be better off not going down this summer.
