Ivan Toney keen on transfer as former Tottenham player speaks out
Ivan Toney would be interested in a move to reunite with Thomas Frank at Tottenham, according to David Bentley.
Toney has been linked with a move to Tottenham as a replacement for Richarlison, who is set to leave Spurs in the near future.
The striker, who played under Frank at Brentford, is seen as the answer to the Lilywhites’ attacking woes this season.
With Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani both sidelined, the North London club are in desperate need of squad depth.
Tottenham would be ‘perfect destination’ for Ivan Toney
Tottenham have been warned to avoid Toney, despite their increasing interest in getting his signing over the line.
The England international has had a solid start to his season in Saudi Arabia, netting 11 goals and providing two assists in all competitions. However, his last season at Brentford was unimpressive.

- He scored four goals and registered two assists
As a result, there are concerns over whether a return to the Premier League would be in his or Spurs’ best interests.
Despite this, speaking via Sky Sports on 11 November, former Tottenham star Bentley believes Spurs is the “perfect destination” for him.
He said: “He’ll want to go in at Tottenham.
“For him, to go [and] play at the stadium with Thomas Frank, that’s the perfect destination for him. If he wants to get into the England team, it’s not about money, it’s about playing to get into that World Cup squad.
“The perfect environment is Tottenham. Tottenham could do with him and England as well – if anything happens with [Harry] Kane, we’re struggling a little bit for centre-forwards.”
As a result, this is definitely one Tottenham fans should keep a close eye on over the next couple of months.
Would Tottenham really be ‘perfect destination’ for Toney?
On the surface, a potential move to North London for Toney looks like a favourable one.
Indeed, the Lilywhites have struggled to score goals this season, with defender Micky van de Ven being Spurs’ top scorer in all competitions.
Toney, no doubt, has had his scoring boots on while in Saudi Arabia and could look to emulate that in North London. Not to mention he’s played under Frank.
While the Dane has started well at Tottenham, the players are still adjusting to his tactics and methods. Bringing in a player like Toney, who’s already familiar with his approach, could catapult Spurs’ season.
Despite this, it’s been two years since Toney has played in the Premier League, and with Solanke and Kolo Muani likely to be back by January, as well as Richarlison and Mathys Tel angling for minutes, he may struggle to receive adequate gametime.
As a result, it may be better for all involved if Frank sticks with what he has, at least until the summer transfer window.
