Guglielmo Vicario’s Tottenham nightmare to end as Real Madrid transfer on cards

Tottenham could replace Guglielmo Vicario in January.

Thomas Frank is at risk of facing the sack at Tottenham, though he is far from being the only issue preventing Spurs from pushing forward.

The players, especially the senior ones, need to take a long, hard look at themselves for their performances once again this season.

Among those not performing to standards is Vicario, who could be replaced in the coming weeks after the latest reports from Spain.

Tottenham eye Real Madrid goalkeeper

Tottenham need to prioritise attacking reinforcements this month, and given the fact they have already missed out on Antoine Semenyo, time is ticking away in that regard.

However, having solidity at the back is just as crucial, and with Vicario, Tottenham have very little of that, and they are said to have set their sights on a replacement.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Andriy Lunin is of interest to Spurs, with the Real Madrid backup keeper wanting to become a starter elsewhere.

It’s claimed that Real Madrid would be willing to sanction his departure, but only if an appropriate offer is made.

Nottingham Forest and Brighton are also said to be keen on Lunin, who is under contract at Madrid until summer 2030.

Carlo Ancelotti has praised Andriy Lunin at Real Madrid

Despite joining in 2018, Lunin has made just 64 senior appearances for Real Madrid, though that’s hardly unexpected.

Thibaut Courtois is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, goalkeepers in the world, and it would take an unseen quality to dethrone him from his starting position.

However, when called upon, Lunin has been a reliable deputy, having been praised by Carlo Ancelotti when needed.

Back in 2023, Ancelotti said: “We have total confidence in Lunin, and the next few days we will see if we add one more goalkeeper to the squad.

“He did well during the pre-season, and we have complete confidence in him. He is a talent, and what he lacks is what everyone lacks. The experience that is gained from being there day by day. It’s what everyone lacks when they start a job.”

Given the length of his contract in Spain and the fact that he is still just 26 years old, Lunin is unlikely to come cheap, and it remains to be seen if Tottenham would be willing to pay what it would take to seal his transfer.
