Glenn Hoddle makes shock Daniel Levy claim as Tottenham’s Eberechi Eze deal collapses

Glenn Hoddle has spoken out after Tottenham failed in their attempt to sign Ebere Eze.

Eze, 27, looks set to sign for Arsenal instead of Spurs despite links with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium being prominent throughout the summer.

On Wednesday (20 August), it appeared as if Tottenham had moved ever closer to signing Eze before Mikel Arteta’s side stepped in to become front runners.

It is fair to say that this hasn’t gone down well with the Lilywhites’ fan base, with the vast majority blaming Daniel Levy for moving too slowly to land the attacking midfielder.

Despite this general feeling around the chairman, N17 club legend Hoddle has spoken out to defend Levy after seemingly missing out on Eze.

Glenn Hoddle surprisingly backs Daniel Levy after Eberechi Eze snub

There is little reason for positivity on the Lilywhites’ side of North London, as they look set to lose out on Eze to their most bitter rivals.

This comes despite having weeks to make a deal happen after James Maddison picked up a potentially season-ending injury in pre-season.

Interest in the Crystal Palace star was seemingly strong, but that didn’t prompt Levy to act quickly to add the number 10 to Thomas Frank’s squad this summer.

As a result, there is little reason for supporters to back the chairman, but Hoddle has still managed to spring to his defence at such a frustrating time.

This has seen the legendary Spurs midfielder speak out on talkSPORT (21 August, 9:16am) to back Levy at the end of this Eze transfer saga.

He said: “Sometimes these things are not as simple as people think. I do believe that he leaves it late sometimes, but at the end of the day, this could be one that’s slipped by.

“You’re never privy to the ins and outs of a deal and what might have held it up. Hopefully, he’s learned a few lessons and go and get the people that are needed for the club.”

Daniel Levy lets Tottenham down again

There is no getting away from the fact that the chairman has let yet another exciting signing slip through the net at the final moment.

That has already been the case with Morgan Gibbs-White at Nottingham Forest this summer, something which supporters haven’t forgotten.

The quality that either of these two stars could add to the squad in North London would have been excellent, but instead, Frank will be forced to assess other options.

Just months into the Dane’s reign as head coach, he has been let down by Levy already.

Fans will likely let their new manager to expect more of the same moving forward, as they are more than used to these antics by now.
