Gibbs-White medical update emerges amid ongoing Tottenham transfer saga

Tottenham are not backing down from their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White looked set to join Tottenham after it was reported on Thursday (10 July) that the Lilywhites had triggered the midfielder’s £60million release clause.

However, the transfer saga took a turn when it emerged that the Reds had cut all contact with Tottenham and were preparing a legal complaint over the nature of Spurs’ approach for Gibbs-White.

Forest reportedly did not permit Tottenham to negotiate with their player and have questioned their knowledge about his £60m release clause.

Gibbs-White has not had his medical at Tottenham

Gibbs-White returned to training with Nottingham Forest on Monday (14 July) as scheduled.

Forest have now reportedly filed their complaint with the Premier League against Tottenham. While reporting the latest on the situation, Alasdair Gold provided a bit more insight on the transfer saga.

Writing via Football London on Monday (14 July), Gold shared that Gibbs-White was meant to have his medical at Spurs but did not end up leaving Nottingham and going to Hotspur Way.

This comes after the unhappiness of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was made abundantly clear to Gibbs-White and all those involved.

As a result, Tottenham fans will need to wait a little longer before seeing the Englishman beside recent marquee signing Mohammed Kudus.

Gibbs-White’s signing could disrupt James Maddison

James Maddison has struggled with fitness since signing from Leicester City in 2023. The midfielder saw injury affect his stellar form during his debut season and is currently recovering from an ankle injury.

As a result, his place at Tottenham has been questioned in recent weeks. It has been suggested that Gibbs-White could become competition in that number 10 position in North London.

However, it is possible to have both players on the pitch together. Indeed, Thomas Frank could position Gibbs-White as an advanced eight with Maddison continuing as Spurs’ number 10.

This would give the Lilywhites immense attacking firepower, provided that there is a defensive midfielder in place to balance things out. An attacking core of Kudus, Maddison, Gibbs-White, Mathys Tel and Dominic Solanke would cause opposition teams huge issues next season.

Therefore, it may be better to keep Maddison at the club for the foreseeable future. With the Premier League and UEFA Champions League in Spurs’ sights, it may be the best decision Frank will ever make.
