Fenerbahce move to sign Son Heung-min in ‘bombshell’ Tottenham transfer news
Son Heung-min could be on his way out of Tottenham as Fenerbahce make an audacious effort to sign the Tottenham superstar.
It has almost been a week since the winter transfer window closed in England, with the deadline being at 11 pm on Monday, 3 February.
However, the window is still open in some countries, including Turkiye, where the deadline is not until Tuesday, 11 February.
In most cases, that would not even affect teams in the Premier League, but Son has been the subject of a surprise enquiry from Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce ‘open their purses’ for Son Heung-min
Fenerbahce have enquired about Son’s willingness to join the Turkish Super Lig club during the winter transfer window, according to Sabah.
The Turkish newspaper reported via their website on 9 February that Jose Mourinho’s side are willing to “open their purses” to sign the South Korea international.
However, Tottenham were quick to reject the approach, insisting that they have no plans to sanction a move for the 32-year-old at this stage of the season.
While the Istanbul giants have put their interest in Son on hold for now as a result, they have already made him their top target for the summer.
Son Heung-min to leave Tottenham?
Son, who turns 33 in July, will only have a year remaining on his contract at the end of the season.
It is worth noting that Tottenham triggered a clause to extend the attacker’s deal by a year in January, but that raises doubts over his long-term future.
The Korean had his contract expiring in the summer before the extension was triggered last month.
It makes one wonder if it would have been better for the North London giants to negotiate a brand new contract if they planned to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.

Instead, Spurs may have opted to trigger the extension to protect his value and avoid losing him for free in the summer.
Now, they have an opportunity to demand a sizeable transfer fee if a club like Fenerbahce were to plot a swoop for the former Bayer Leverkusen ace.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if a reunion with Mourinho is enticing for Son.
