Fabrizio Romano issues Rayan Cherki transfer update amid Tottenham links

Tottenham and Manchester City are among the clubs linked with a move for Lyon winger Rayan Cherki this summer.

The 21-year-old is on the back of an exceptional season in Ligue 1, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists in 30 games.

With him having only another year left on his deal, an exit appears to be on the cards in the upcoming transfer window.

Man City expected to make bid for Cherki, claims Fabrizio Romano

Tottenham are keen on signing Cherki but will have to fend off competition from Manchester City if they are to secure his services.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Citizens are set to submit an opening bid for the talented Frenchman next week.

They are planning to accelerate their pursuit of the in-demand winger and also sign Tijjani Reijnders in the next few days.

It’s understood that Cherki fancies a move to the Premier League and Pep Guardiola wants to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.

Spurs have already made an approach for the Lyon winger, but there is no bid yet tabled for him.

Via X, Romano wrote: “Manchester City are set to submit their opening bid also for Rayan Cherki next week.

“The plan is to accelerate for Cherki and try get Tijjani Reijnders deal sealed in the upcoming days.”

Tottenham will find it hard to sign Cherki this summer

Tottenham face a steep challenge in signing Cherki due to Manchester City’s serious interest and readiness to submit a bid.

The 21-year-old is a priority for City, who see him as a cost-effective replacement for departing stars like Kevin De Bruyne.

City’s financial muscle, Champions League pedigree, and Guardiola’s allure, give them a significant edge.

Tottenham, despite their Europa League success, lack the same pull, especially after a 17th-place Premier League finish.

With Cherki likely favouring a move to City, Tottenham’s hopes hinge on outmanoeuvring a wealthier, more prestigious rival, which seems unlikely.

It remains to be seen if, like the Manchester-based outfit, the Lilywhites decide to submit a bid of their own in the coming days.
