Eberechi Eze closing in on Tottenham transfer as final fee now revealed

Eberechi Eze is close to starting his Tottenham career as negotiations with Crystal Palace accelerate.

Tottenham left the race for Eze when Morgan Gibbs-White’s transfer became a priority. However, Spurs resumed the charge when James Maddison sustained an ACL injury against Newcastle United during pre-season.

His transfer is part of a double deal Tottenham hope to pull off, which could see both Eze and Manchester City’s Savinho arrive at Hotspur Way.

And it now seems that Eze will be the first to land in North London out of the two transfers.

Tottenham and Palace closing in on £60million Eze agreement

Tottenham fans were at wits’ end when Oliver Glasner warned not to believe all the transfer rumours around Eze before Palace took on Chelsea in the Premier League.

This came after Eze was named in the squad to face Chelsea despite being a doubt a couple of hours prior. But it seems that the Lilywhites are in luck as he edges closer to signing at Hotspur Way.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri via X on Monday, 18 August, the agreement between Palace and Tottenham should reach £60million.

A contract until June 2030 awaits Eze at Spurs, who has already accepted the conditions set.

If the clubs reach an agreement within the coming days, Eze could make his Tottenham debut against Manchester City at the Etihad.

Who could Eze replace at Tottenham?

With the skills that Eze possesses, there is no doubt that he will start for Thomas Frank this season. As a result, someone will need to step aside so that he can come in.

While Eze can play on the right wing, he is best placed as a 10 behind a striker. Pape Matar-Sarr would have been the likely person to be demoted to the bench for Eze. However, after incredible showings against Wycombe and PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final, Sarr is on track to become an uncontested starter at Tottenham.

As a result, one of Rodrigo Bentancur or Joao Palhinha could concede their starting spot.

Frank has used both in a double pivot throughout pre-season. But Sarr could now occupy a more central midfield position with one of Bentancur or Palhinha behind him in the defensive midfield.

No matter what happens in the coming days, Spurs are certain to look like a different team on the pitch.
