Destiny Udogie’s Tottenham chapter nears a sad end as direct replacement set to sign contract

Destiny Udogie looks to have played his final game in a Tottenham shirt.

Spurs are in the market for new players this January transfer market, as speculation around Thomas Frank‘s future grows.

Regardless of whether the Dane will remain in charge of the Lilywhites or not, the Lewis Family are committed to bringing additions in this month.

Udogie has been battling with injury problems ever since he arrived at N17; it’s felt like, with the Italian’s last game coming at the start of December.

The left-back is understood to be currently absent due to another injury setback, with Tottenham in the market for a new defender on that side.

Tottenham edge closer to Souza deal

Udogie‘s best campaign was easily in the 2023-24 season, when he racked up 28 Premier League appearances for the Lilywhites and showed his best form as an attacking fullback.

The 23-year-old has managed to play just 10 times in the league this season, with Frank eyeing a new left-back.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with Souza from Brazilian side Santos in recent days, and the latest update suggests a deal is all but done.

According to Florian Plettenberg on X, Souza is on the verge of joining Spurs ahead of a permanent deal.

The figure that has been banded about is £13million for the left-back who has previously represented Brazil at the under-17s level.

The potential signing of Souza could spell the end for Udogie’s time at N17.

What does Souza’s arrival mean for Djed Spence?

Djed Spence has regularly featured at left-back when starting for Spurs, even though his preferred position is on the other side of defence.

Pedro Porro has come under fire this season for poor performances and handling of fan situations, but Frank has stuck by the Spaniard.

With Porro’s position cemented, Souza could give Spence a run for his money at left-back.

It should bring the best out of the Englishman, if anything, as competition for places in the starting squad should be rife after January.
