Daniel Levy stance shared as Cristian Romero ‘holds talks over Tottenham exit’
Cristian Romero could leave Tottenham in the summer as Atletico Madrid have serious intentions to sign the Argentina defender.
Romero has been one of Tottenham’s best defenders since his arrival at N17 in 2021. The Argentine defender quickly made a name for himself in North London and became one of the first names to be drafted into the starting lineup when fit.
This season, Romero has been plagued with two different injuries but has remained Ange Postecoglou’s preferred choice when fit, making 14 appearances in the Premier League.
The Argentine defender will enter the final two years of his deal at Tottenham this summer and is already a summer transfer target for Atletico Madrid.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s stance on Romero
Recent reports claimed that Atletico Madrid were seriously considering signing Romero from Tottenham.
With Romero’s future in doubt, Spurs have decided to shelve their plans to discuss a contract with the 26-year-old seemingly pushing to leave this summer.
More recent reports suggested that Romero has spoken to Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone over the phone to discuss a possible move.

In fact, Romero has validated the idea of joining the Spanish side in the summer and personal terms won’t be a problem.
The biggest obstacle is the fee that Spurs will demand for Romero. According to a new update by Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri (29 March), Levy’s stance is that he considers Romero non-transferable, which could be a stumbling block in the negotiations.
However, Tottenham are expected to demand upwards of £67million for Romero.

Time to cash in on Romero
It looks like Romero has set his sights on leaving the North Londoners in the summer. With the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner already holding a telephone conversation with Atletico Madrid manager Simeone, it indicates the eagerness of Romero to join the Spanish giants.
The 26-year-old has a contract till 2027 and if Romero prefers to leave Spurs, the Lilywhites must cash in on him this summer and pocket a hefty transfer fee for a defender that has the potential to become one of the best in the world.
By joining Atletico, Romero would be able to play regular Champions League football and also have an odd shot at winning a domestic trophy.
