Crystal Palace ready to sell Marc Guehi after Tottenham transfer news

Crystal Palace are assessing their options as Tottenham circle their players.

Palace’s ability to identify and produce top talents sees them struggle to hold on to their key players each year, and their historic FA Cup win last season has only drawn more eyes to Selhurst Park.

The Eagles have already had plenty of interest from Tottenham over Eberechi Eze this summer. In addition, Adam Wharton has also been considered by Spurs, but looks set to spend another year in South London.

However, Marc Guehi only has one year left on his contract and could be on the move following the latest Tottenham developments.

Tottenham weighing up move for Guehi

Spurs are currently well-stocked at centre-back, but the uncertain future surrounding Cristian Romero has pushed the North Londoners to explore other options.

As such, Tottenham are weighing up a move for Guehi, as reported by The Telegraph (21 July), having already had a bid for the Palace star rejected in the most recent winter transfer window.

Liverpool are currently favourites to sign the England international, but Spurs are hoping that the appeal of staying in London could help sway the 25-year-old’s opinion.

Guehi’s statistics for Palace (2024/25)

It was revealed by David Ornstein on Sky Sports (21 July) that Oliver Glasner’s side are open to letting their captain leave this summer.

Ornstein stated, “I think Palace would be looking to cash in rather than face losing him for free next summer, but he’s got the power in his hands.”

“He’s very happy at Palace, by the sounds of it, and I don’t think he’d be afraid to go to the end of his deal. It doesn’t seem like a new contract is on the agenda.”

Any move for Guehi would likely depend on outgoings in N17, and Spurs will assess whether they have to make a move now to avoid losing him to Liverpool or wait to sign him for free next summer.

Guehi would be an excellent signing for Tottenham

Guehi possesses all the qualities that would allow him to excel under Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

His reading of the game is excellent, meaning he is often well-placed to deal with threats rather than resort to last-ditch defending.

The Chelsea academy graduate is also very comfortable on the ball and is equally content playing both sides at the back.

Guehi also possesses leadership qualities, which would be very valuable to Frank’s young squad, while his age dictates that he could be at the heart of the Spurs defence for a long time.
