Cristian Romero told to leave Tottenham as transfer plea emerges overseas
Tottenham are bracing themselves for a potentially difficult summer with a player exodus already on the cards in North London.
Ange Postecoglou’s side has only one route into qualifying for European football next season, and that is to win the Europa League.
Tottenham are within reach of the final in Bilbao, but if they fail, then they could be forced into selling key assets to allow them to rebuild their squad in the summer.
Cristian Romero has been linked with an exit, and the centre-back is already being courted by La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Julian Alvarez wants Romero at Atletico Madrid
Romero has been a key player for Tottenham since his arrival in 2021, but he could be headed for the exit door this summer.
Romero won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022 alongside Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, and the former Manchester City star has confirmed he wants to reunite with the Spurs defender.
“I hope so. I hope it happens. He’s a great player. One of the best centre backs in the world, for me. A national teammate and a great person. That would be a great addition to the team,” Alvarez told Diario AS on May 6, when asked about Romero’s potential move.
Alvarez is keen for more Argentinian players to join Atletico Madrid, a key reason behind their interest in the Tottenham star.

Tottenham could move on from Romero
Although Romero has been a strong performer over the years, this summer may be Tottenham’s best chance to sell him and move on.
The 27-year-old has two years left on his contract, and it appears unlikely that he will sign an extension. This would mean that his value will decrease before it eventually expires.

If Romero is unhappy at the club and Spurs fail to qualify for Europe, he may push for a move, and Tottenham could maximise the value of his sale.
Romero has also suffered from a lot of injury problems over the years, and this could be a good opportunity for Tottenham to replace him with someone more reliable.
