Brentford ready move to sign Tottenham star amid ‘crisis’

Brentford are prepared to make another move to sign Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham, according to the Sunday People.

The Sunday newspaper reported via their print edition (29 December, page 55) that the Bees are eyeing the Spurs “reject” solve their defensive crisis.

Reguilon, 27, is surplus to requirements in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, while Thomas Frank enjoyed working with him on loan during the second half of last season.

Sergio Reguilon frozen out at Tottenham, Brentford transfer on cards

The left-back has found playing time hard to come by in North London since returning from Brentford in the summer.

His only appearance for Spurs came in their 4-3 win against Manchester United in the EFL Cup quarter-final on 19 December, coming on as a substitute in injury time.

It is evident that Reguilon does not have a place in Postecoglou’s plans.

It is telling that the former Real Madrid defender has not featured more often for Tottenham despite them having three players unavailable at the back.

Therefore, an exit could be on the cards for Reguilon when the January transfer window opens this week.

The Bees are without Rico Henry, who has not featured this season due to injury, and have been playing attacker Keane Lewis-Potter at left-back when needed.

Frank has seemingly hinted at the possibility of re-signing Reguilon in January and it would not be a surprise if that became a reality soon.

Whether that will be another loan deal or permanent agreement remains to be seen, however.
