Arsenal ‘watch player up close in Tottenham win’, summer transfer possible

Tottenham secured an excellent victory away at Eintracht Frankfurt and their biggest rivals were keeping a close eye on proceedings.

Dominic Solanke scored the only goal of the game as Spurs won away at Frankfurt to reach the Europa League semi-finals.

This second leg victory came after a draw in North London, in which Tottenham went 1-0 down at home to the German side.

One of the players who impressed in the tie has now caught the eye of rivals Arsenal, and could even end up moving to the other side of North London.

Arsenal watch Hugo Ekitike in Tottenham win

Tottenham drew the first leg 1-1 as Pedro Porro cancelled out Hugo Ekitike’s opener, but they managed to keep the Frenchman quiet in the return fixture.

Ekitike is now the subject of transfer interest from Arsenal, who had scouts watching his display against Spurs in the second leg of their Europa League clash.

It has been reported by TBR Football (18 April) that Ekitike is wanted by Arsenal and Liverpool, and he will carry a price tag of £80million this summer.

Ekitike scored in the sixth minute of the first leg, with an outstanding finish into the bottom corner, but Cristian Romero helped keep him quiet in Germany.

Ekitike already building rivalry with Tottenham

Given his talent, Tottenham fans will be annoyed if Arsenal secure a player of Ekitike’s quality, and over the two legs in the Europa League quarter-finals, he showcased why he might become a hated figure in N17.

Ekitike celebrated his goal in the style of Thierry Henry, and it is clear that he idolised the former Arsenal striker growing up.

Should he join and feature in future North London derbies, his goal and celebration is likely to be referenced in the future, and he may become a figurehead of hatred for some of the Spurs faithful as a result.

For now though, Spurs fans can enjoy the fact that they stopped Ekitike scoring at home, and that they have progressed to the semi-finals of the Europa League as they aim to salvage something from this season.
