Arsenal catch Tottenham cold in brand new transfer push before 3 February
Tottenham are being caught cold in the transfer market indirectly by Arsenal, according to Sami Mokbel.
The Daily Mail’s chief football reporter notes that Spurs are pushing to sign a new attacker, but have hit setbacks such as their North London rivals’ unexpected attempts to bring in players of their own.
Strengthening the forward line has emerged as a priority throughout this month for Tottenham, who have so far brought in only goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and are now stuck 15th in the Premier League.
Writing in the print edition of the Daily Mail (21 January, pg 72), Mokbel said: “Tottenham’s recruitment team are working hard to strengthen the squad. But that is easier said than done.
“The transfer market evolves on a daily basis and conditions for deals are completely changing. For example, Tottenham’s desire to sign a forward has been complicated by the injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal.
“The Gunners, who were not expecting to enter the market for a new attacker, are now seeking one. That causes difficulties for Tottenham and clubs in a similar position. Spurs should accept their share of the blame for that. Get your business done decisively and you are less likely to be caught cold.”
Tottenham losing out on transfer targets
The problem at present for Tottenham in the transfer window is anyone of note who appears on their radar is wanted by more established performers.
For instance, Randal Kolo Muani – cast aside at Paris Saint-Germain by Luis Enrique – appeared to be close to a switch to Spurs but has instead moved to Juventus on loan.
Marcus Rashford has alerted the Lilywhites among several others in the race for his signature with Manchester United still open to agreeing on a loan exit – however, Champions League clubs have the upper hand over Spurs, for whom Rashford would be cup-tied in the Europa League this season.

Supporters are intensifying their pressure on Daniel Levy to invest in a notoriously tricky window, with Tottenham spiralling. They are now nine points adrift of even the top half of the table, closer to the relegation zone.
Ange Postecoglou is at serious risk of being left short in attempts behind the scenes to get deals done for players who can genuinely improve his options and make a much-needed difference.
In other Tottenham news, a potential managerial target has signalled his desire to coach in the Premier League.
