Angel Gomes transfer: Tottenham confidence grows after what’s been heard
Tottenham have grown increasingly confident that they will be able to finalise the signing of Angel Gomes from Lille.
The England international is out of contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy this summer, and Spurs are one of several clubs who are credited with an interest in the 24-year-old.
However, with the future of Ange Postecoglou uncertain, any potential signing announcements are unlikely to come before the manager’s situation is publicly resolved.
The Australian boss ultimately delivered his promise of winning a trophy in his second season as the North London side triumphed in the Europa League, but it remains to be seen whether the club hierarchy are satisfied that their European exploits have done enough to overshadow what has been a dismal domestic campaign.

Tottenham feel that Gomes may accept their contract offer
Spurs will have beaten off plenty of competition from other clubs if they do manage to seal Gomes‘ signing.
The former Manchester United man was linked with a return to Old Trafford back in the winter, with Tottenham also an admirer.
West Ham and French outfit Marseille are both believed to be interested, but Spurs are confident of pulling off a deal.
The Lilywhites have tabled a contract offer to the creative midfielder, and are increasingly confident that those terms will be accepted, according to Ben Jacobs.
“Gomes is another possibility, and Tottenham have made an offer,” Jacobs stated on the Last Word on Spurs podcast (1 June). “What I’ve heard in the last 48 hours is that Tottenham have grown in confidence that their offer might be accepted.”

Gomes would be an excellent signing for Tottenham
Gomes has drifted out of the minds of Premier League fans a little since his first move away from England back in 2020, but Lee Carsley’s decision to hand him his first-ever senior England caps earlier this season helped to draw attention to his game once again.
The midfielder has quietly become one of Ligue 1’s standout performers over the last few seasons, and although he has struggled for gametime to an extent this term, there can be no doubt about his quality.
Season | Games | Goals | Assists |
2024/25 | 20 | 2 | 1 |
2023/24 | 45 | 2 | 10 |
2022/23 | 39 | 3 | 6 |
He notched nine goal contributions in all competitions for Lille in 2022/23, and then followed that up with 12 in the 2023/24 season, the highest tally of his career so far.
Son Hueng-min’s recent decline has left James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski to shoulder the creative burden for Postecoglou’s men for the majority of the campaign. If the former Celtic boss is to turn his side’s fortunes around next term, then he undoubtedly needs more playmaking options to call upon.
Gomes has the potential to slot into Spurs’ midfield nicely, where the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur could balance out his lack of bite and physicality.
If the N17 outfit can get the deal over the line, they will be getting a player who is significantly more ready for the Premier League than when he came through at United.
