Ange Postecoglou to push button on Tottenham transfer for ex-Premier League star

Ange Postecoglou is already eyeing up potential summer transfers for Tottenham Hotspur with a cut-price deal on the cards.

Postecoglou‘s long-term future in North London may have come under the microscope at various times this season, but with Tottenham back on track in the Premier League, the Australian’s position is secure.

Still languishing in mid-table despite three league victories on the spin, Spurs still have the Europa League to play for in their bid for Champions League qualification, with AZ coming up in the round of 16.

Tottenham are a club who often try to be one step ahead on the transfer front, however, and Postecoglou has identified a former Premier League star who he thinks can significantly bolster their ranks.

Ayoze Perez eyed up for £6.6m Tottenham transfer

Although Tottenham’s lucrative financial position makes them able to dine at the top table when it comes to big-money transfers, Postecoglou has his sights on a player who could cost them just £6.6million.

According to Fichajes (23 February), former Newcastle and Leicester forward Ayoze Perez, who has scored 11 goals in just 18 LaLiga matches for Villarreal this term, is attracting interest.

That interest is spearheaded by Spurs and Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, who are both willing to offer £6.6m plus bonuses for the 31-year-old with Villarreal failing to rule out approving a potential deal.

Ayoze Perez transfer a low-risk no-brainer for Tottenham

With Frankfurt looking to fill the hole left by Omar Marmoush’s departure to Manchester City last month, it’s no surprise to see them put up competition for a striker who is available for a relative bargain.

Likewise for Spurs, the signing of Perez would represent a fairly low-risk outlay in Daniel Levy‘s mind; bringing in a striker with 43 Premier League goals and four Spain caps under his belt for less than £7m.

Ayoze Perez’s career record in all competitions could appeal to Tottenham

In the modern-day footballing landscape, strikers who hit double-figure tallies in any of Europe’s top five leagues come at a massive premium, making a £6.6m move for Perez look like an absolute snip.

Given Tottenham‘s youth-first transfer policy of recent years – their £45.7m option to buy for 19-year-old loanee Mathys Tel being a prime example – moving for a 31-year-old Perez would be a shift in gear.

However, with Postecoglou’s side having been made to rue a lack of adequate depth up front this season, having an experienced, international striker in reserve certainly won’t hurt.
