Alan Pardew staggered at name of player tipped to join Tottenham

Tottenham have endured a miserable season, and serious changes will be necessary in the summer transfer window.

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League, and their miserable domestic campaign has meant they are unlikely to qualify for European football next season.

Their only chance of success now rests in the Europa League. If they somehow win the trophy and achieve Champions League qualification, their firepower in the transfer market will be significantly higher.

One star name has now been mentioned as an option for Spurs in the summer, but former Premier League manager Alan Pardew has now laughed this suggestion off.

Pardew rubbishes Eberechi Eze to Tottenham links

Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze has now been linked with a shock move to Tottenham, but while he would be an excellent addition, this is unlikely to materialise.

Speaking on talkSPORT (7 April), Pardew slammed any idea of Eze joining Spurs in the summer window.

“Did you say Eze by the way? What makes you think you’ll get him?” Pardew asked presenter and Spurs fan Majestic.

“He won’t go to Spurs. Can’t see it. He’s the man at the moment. He’s probably in the top 10 Premier League players at the moment.”

Pardew went on to praise Eze’s talent, and slammed the fact that no one else took a chance on him years ago.

“Do you know where he was? He was at QPR, just round the corner. For ages, I used to go to watch QPR thinking ‘Someone will come and get him,'” he added.

Tottenham cannot sign Eze without European football

Eze would be a superb signing for Tottenham if they somehow pull it off, with the midfielder excelling for Crystal Palace, as a creative playmaker.

The 26-year-old has evolved into one of the best midfielders in his position in the Premier League, and has provided 11 assists in 33 games across all competitions this season.

Signing Eze would not only come at a huge cost, but convincing him to join will be a difficult task.

Realistically, there is little chance that Spurs can afford Eze’s asking price without the extra financial benefit provided by European competition, and given the potential other interest in him, clubs competing in the Champions League would have a much higher chance of signing him.
