AC Milan agree deal to sign left-back after £40m+ Udogie talks with Tottenham

Destiny Udogie is attracting interest from abroad after impressing for Tottenham.

Udogie signed a five-year deal with Tottenham in August 2022 before returning on loan to Udinese to continue his development in Italy for one season.

Since arriving back at Hotspur Way, the 22-year-old has made the left-back position his own, though he has had to battle with a couple of injury issues.

Udogie’s performances have earned him 12 caps for Italy and have caught the eye of clubs in his home country vying to bring the talented player back to Serie A.

AC Milan held talks with Tottenham over Udogie

Thomas Frank‘s task this summer is not only to sign players, but also to decide which players he wishes to offload, as Spurs currently have over 30 senior players in their squad.

However, Daniel Levy is determined to get maximum value out of every player, and will not listen to any offers under £43 million for Udogie, as reported in the print edition of the Gazzetta (22 July, pg13).

AC Milan held preliminary talks with Spurs about the left back, but quickly moved on to Brighton’s Pervis Estupinan and agreed a deal with the Seagulls after finding out Tottenham’s asking price.

Udogie’s statistics for Spurs in the Premier League

Udogie is considered a big part of Spurs’ future and was duly given a contract extension that took his deal to the summer of 2030.

Tottenham are already in the market for a full-back, as they currently only have four recognised players in that position, one of whom is Ben Davies, who has primarily played as a central defender.

Spurs should not entertain any offers for Udogie

Udogie is arguably one of Tottenham’s most exciting young players, as he has all the athletic and technical attributes to become one of the Premier League’s top left-backs.

His ability to drive forward with the ball and provide an outlet for the player ahead of him is unique, while he seems to never run out of energy.

His direct goal contributions still have room to improve, but Frank’s ability to develop young players will likely see a significant upturn in those statistics.

As such, Spurs should look to keep Udogie at all costs, as along with Pedro Porro and Djed Spence, Tottenham’s fullbacks are one of the manager’s most potent weapons.
