Tottenham set to make Luka Vuskovic mistake as summer transfer plan mooted

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to send Luka Vuskovic back to Hamburg this summer, but not before taking contract action on the talented teenager.

Having signed from Hajduk Split in the summer of 2023, Vuskovic only joined Tottenham last summer after spending two further seasons out on loan.

The 19-year-old centre-back spent the 2023-24 campaign with Polish side Radomiak Radom, before enjoying an impressive 2024-25 season on loan with Belgian outfit Westerlo respectively.

2025-26 saw the Croatian international spend it with German Bundesliga side Hamburg, where he evolved into a key starting player for them, and was undoubtedly one of the top players in his position in the division last season.

As such, there has been much transfer talk surrounding Vuskovic in recent times, with numerous top clubs understood to be circling his signature.

Tottenham set to ink Luka Vuskovic to new contract & loan deal

Vuskovic had an excellent season with Hamburg, starting 27 of his 28 Bundesliga appearances for them and netting six times to boot.

Their supporters instantly fell in love with the Spurs defender, and judging from Vuskovic’s emotional goodbye message to Hamburg, that feeling was clearly mutual.

However, his Hamburg story may not be over yet, as a fresh report from the Independent claiming that he is expected to return to the Bundesliga outfit on loan for the 2026-27 campaign.

But, not before Tottenham reportedly sign him to a new long-term contract, which would be a huge coup for Spurs given some of the level of transfer interest that has been mooted for Vuskovic.

The teenager was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season, showing just how much talent and potential he’s got, but also speaking to the level he’s already playing at right now.

Surely then, Vuskovic must at least be ready to stake a first-team claim in North London, as if the Lilywhites were linked with signing a Bundesliga Team of the Season defender, there would be much excitement from many supporters.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin may well all leave N17 this summer, and it doesn’t really feel like Spurs can afford to be passing up the opportunity to bring Vuskovic into the fold under Roberto De Zerbi as a result.

However, the same report does also claim that Tottenham are looking to make two new signings at the centre-back position this summer, with three Premier League stars named as potential targets.

Who are the centre-backs named as Tottenham targets?

The Independent’s report claims that Tottenham want to sign both Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi respectively.

Meanwhile, they also report that Man City defender John Stones is being considered as a veteran option for his leadership qualities, but it’s suggested that the out-of-contract defender isn’t a first-choice target.

On top of this, the report goes on to claim that De Zerbi is looking to raid Brighton further this summer, with midfielder Carlos Baleba and goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen also targets alongside Van Hecke.

Man City shot-stopper James Trafford is also named as a possible option for Spurs, with it being claimed that De Zerbi is set on signing a new pair of gloves despite the rise in form of Antonin Kinsky.
