Tottenham exit expected for Dane Scarlett despite what Hibernian fans have said

Dane Scarlett has been tipped to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The 22-year-old has been a standout throughout his time in the academy, and was sent to Hibernian to gain first-team experience.

However, it has not gone to plan, and the Spurs talent has notched just one goal and one assist in 12 matches in a miserable loan spell.

It leaves question marks over his future with the Lilywhites, as he clearly can’t perform in the Scottish Premiership.

Tottenham have a decision to make, and it may see Scarlett exit in a devastating development for the young forward.

Why Scarlett could leave Tottenham this summer

John Wenham believes that the fact that Scarlett’s contract is expiring in one year will work against his Tottenham future this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think Dane Scarlett will also go this summer.

“He’s got one year left on his contract, I just think it’s the right time for him now to seek a permanent move.

“This Hibernian loan, I was hoping, was going to be the one where he scores a load of goals, because I think he’s very, very good.

“I’ve never seen an academy player that can head a ball like him, but Hibs fans seemingly like him, from the comments I’m reading, for working hard and creating things for others, but he just doesn’t score, unfortunately, at the moment.”

Tottenham need to ensure pathway for academy strikers

Spurs need to ensure that there is a pathway for their young strikers to have a chance to make it into the first-team.

There is a space to be taken within the squad, with Dominic Solanke being the only clear contender for a starting role at the moment.

The likes of Scarlett, Will Lankshear, and Mason Melia should be given a chance to fight for that position, to play second fiddle to the established star, rather than the club wasting more money in the transfer market.

They will probably bring someone in, who has no connection to the N17 outfit, and they will have a poor season leaving the club in a similar position to the one they are already in.
