Luka Vuskovic loan plan blasted after ‘ridiculous behaviour’ in Bundesliga

Luka Vuskovic looks set for another season away from Tottenham Hotspur.

The highly-rated defender spent the last season with Hamburg, where he impressed in one of Europe’s top leagues.

A report from the Independent on 27 May claimed that the Croatian centre-back was expected to sign a new contract with Spurs before rejoining the Bundesliga outfit for another season.

It is understood that he is keen to play with his brother, who is currently serving a doping ban until November 2026.

Tottenham need to keep the 19-year-old happy, but some supporters feel that he is ready to make the step up to the first team.

What has been said about Vuskovic loan destination?

John Wenham feels that there is little value in Tottenham loaning Vuskovic back to the German side, and blasted the Spurs ace as the potential destination emerged.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “There was a piece that Luka Vuskovic could actually extend his contract with Tottenham and then go back to Hamburg on loan to play with his brother.

“Can’t he just play with his brother in the park or something? I don’t see that as a step up in his development, he’s proven himself in the Bundesliga, and he got in the Bundesliga team of the season.

“If we’re going to loan him out again, I’d rather it was to a club in La Liga, or a Premier League club, ideally, I’d like him just to come and play for Tottenham, I think he’s ready.

“Maybe they feel that he’s such a prospect and are aware that most of Europe’s big clubs have got him on their shortlist, if they can get him to an extended contract, and this is something that he’s adamantly said that he wants to do, playing with his brother once his ban is over at Hamburg, but they haven’t even got any European football to offer.

“If we’re going to loan him again, it’d have to be to somewhere where there’s European football and to another country to continue his development.

“Obviously, he’s already played now in the Croatian League, the Polish League, the Belgian League and the Bundesliga; he’s excelled in all of them, and he’s still only 19 years of age.

“I feel like every loan so far, we’ve pushed him up a level, in this Bundesliga, he got seven goals, ridiculous behaviour for a centre-back.”

Why Hamburg loan makes sense for Vuskovic and Tottenham

Despite Wenham’s concerns about the destination, it makes sense for Vuskovic to return to the Volksparkstadion.

For starters, he is comfortable there, having a good relationship with the squad and the fanbase in the Hanseatic city.

Secondly, he has already show that he can excel there, and perform at a high level, which would be better than going somewhere else and not making the team.

Finally, the continuity will mean that he can continue that form and come back to the Lilywhites ready to stake a claim for their starting line-up in the future.

If it is what it takes to get him to agree to terms, the N17 side must do it.
