Lucas Bergvall could join Premier League rivals in Tottenham loan exit agreement

Lucas Bergvall could be set for a loan move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Swedish international has fallen out of favour under Roberto De Zerbi, who has preferred a more experienced midfield line-up.

He has started just once under the Italian, who has gone with Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha and Conor Gallagher instead on most occasions.

Bergvall is one of the most highly-rated talents at Hotspur Way, and has made 78 first-team appearances, but a temporary exit could be beneficial for all parties.

Tottenham fans will be reluctant to see him leave, but if it was not on a permanent basis, it may prove to be the right outcome.

Could Bergvall really leave Tottenham on loan?

John Wenham believes that there is a chance that Bergvall will leave Tottenham on loan this summer amid concerns around De Zerbi’s usage of him.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I just wonder if Bergvall is one we look to loan next season, if there was a Premier League side that would take him on loan, I think that would be really beneficial.

“If he went and played 38 games for Bournemouth, or Brighton, or Brentford, or a team like that, it would just be fantastic for Tottenham, and for the players’ development as well, because we’re not going to have that European football, we’re just not going to have that much game time.

“I think the manager has made it clear already that Palhinha, Bentancur and Gallagher will all be staying at the club, so we need to make sure he is getting enough game time.”

Why De Zerbi may change his tune on Bergvall

De Zerbi was under immense pressure to keep Spurs in the top-flight, and that may explain his reluctance to utilise the Swede.

Perhaps, with the pressure off now, and the ability to build the squad around him in the transfer window, the 20-year-old may have a chance to win him over.

He is under contract until 2031, having extended his deal in April 2025, so his long-term future is surely in N17.

It may just be a case of waiting until the boss thinks that he is ready for a starting place, and having to settle for minutes from the bench for now.
