Tottenham fans know exactly who’s to blame as Xavi Simons suffers cruel injury – ‘Insane’
Tottenham Hotspur finally picked up their first win of 2026 on Saturday as Roberto De Zerbi’s side beat Wolves 1-0, but it came at a cost as Xavi Simons sustained a likely season-ending injury.
Making the trip to Molineux, the Lilywhites knew that nothing but three points would be acceptable against the already relegated Old Gold.
It was not the prettiest, but De Zerbi’s side got the job done on the road, with a late goal from Joao Palhinha sealing the deal in the Black Country.
Though, one big incident marred the afternoon for Spurs, with star man Simons stretchered off after suffering what appears to be a serious knee injury.
The Dutchman had begun to shine under De Zerbi, who will now be without his difference maker as Tottenham battle for their Premier League future.

Tottenham fans furious at medical staff after latest injury blows
The injury crisis at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been well documented for the best part of 18 months.
With it still ongoing, De Zerbi arrived at the club over the international break, inheriting an extremely thin squad.
| Tottenham’s injury woes | Potential return |
| Dejan Kulusevski | Knee – June |
| Mohammed Kudus | Thigh – Unknown |
| Wilson Odobert | Knee – Late November |
| Guglielmo Vicario | Hernia – Late April |
| Ben Davies | Ankle – Late April |
| Rodrigo Bentancur | Thigh – Early May |
| Cristian Romero | Knee – June |
| Xavi Simons | Knee – Unknown |
| Dominic Solanke | Hamstring – Unknown |
And now, Simons could well be set for an extended period on the sidelines, just as he was beginning to shine in the final third for Spurs.
Reacting to the second-half incident, fans of the North London club were scathing, instantly blaming the Tottenham medical team for initially allowing the attacking midfielder to continue.
“This medical staff is insane,” added one supporter on X, questioning the decision to allow him to continue.
With blame placed at the door of the medical team, one supporter mentioned that there needs to be a serious inquest after these incidents continue to happen.
Spurs are left fighting for their lives at the bottom of the standings, with relegation a serious threat with four matches remaining.
Some fans believe that the consistent issues on the medical front make them deserving of the Championship, despite what happens on the pitch.
Alongside the incident with Simons, striker Dominic Solanke was also forced off, after he too put in a much better performance against Brighton last week.
With the pair set to be sidelined for periods, some within the fanbase believe the writing is on the wall ahead of the season’s end.
After picking up their first win of 2026, Tottenham travel to Aston Villa on 3 May, with their top-flight future hanging firmly in the balance as the season comes to a close.
Tottenham will miss Xavi Simons as season hits boiling point
The injury to Tottenham’s star signing comes at a horrible time, just as Simons has begun to flourish in Lilywhite.
Making the move from RB Leipzig last summer, the Dutchman struggled to make an impact at first, though he has developed into a real difference-maker in recent weeks.

With the ability to drive with the ball and eat up space better than most in the division, Simons is always looking to get on the ball and make something happen.
This was evident in the 2-2 draw against Brighton, as he continued to battle and plug as the Lilywhites searched for a win on home soil – dragging them ever so close before Georginio Rutter’s late equaliser.
Things just continue to go from bad to worse on the injury front for Tottenham, who will have to do without the now talismanic Simons as they scrap for their lives at the wrong end of the Premier League.
