Joao Palhinha couldn’t believe his luck vs Aston Villa as Tottenham quality finally shows
Joao Palhinha played a key role as Tottenham Hotspur secured a dominant win over Aston Villa.
The Lilywhites rocked up to Villa Park and made the historic ground their own with a stunning performance.
Conor Gallagher and Richarlison netted to secure three points, which was nothing less than Spurs deserved on the day.
There were many star performers in B6, but the Bayern Munich loanee was arguably the best in the middle of the park.
Palhinha has been singled out at Tottenham, although he was likely confused as to how things were so easy against Unai Emery’s side.

Joao Palhinha couldn’t believe his luck vs Aston Villa
There was certainly a level of surprise when the Villans named seven changes from the side that lost to Nottingham Forest in mid-week.
The likes of Tyrone Mings and Ian Maatsen came in, and the North London outfit took advantage, dominating in almost every aspect.
| Stat | Aston Villa | Tottenham |
| Possession (%) | 45 | 55 |
| Expected goals | 0.32 | 0.99 |
| Shots | 5 | 10 |
| Big chances | 1 | 2 |
| Accurate passes | 312 | 400 |
The stats paint a grim picture for the hosts, although Roberto De Zerbi can be proud of his side’s performance, with Palhinha now taking credit.
Former scout Bryan King was impressed by the Portugal international at Villa Park, but has suggested he’ll be shocked by how easy life was in the Midlands.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “When he first came to Tottenham, everyone regarded him as a top player.
“He won’t have believed how easy things were against Villa. He looked lively and was proud to wear the shirt.
“It’s been a long time since players have been like that, rather than being afraid.
“There are still three games to go, and there’s still pressure on him to perform.”
Palhinha nullified Aston Villa with ease and needs to continue that if the Lilywhites are to avoid the drop this season.
How well did Palhinha perform in Tottenham win vs Aston Villa?
In a truly easy 2-1 win away from home, it is a surprise just how effective a defensive midfielder proved to be.
Any attack that the Villans tried to start were regularly shut down by the 30-year-old who wasn’t taking any nonsense.
That saw him chip in with 10 defensive contributions while also winning four duels to stop the hosts from advancing up the pitch.

The Portuguese talent also maintained a 90 per cent pass accuracy and helped to keep his side ticking to further frustrate the Villa Park crowd.
It was an excellent performance from Palhinha, and it needs to be the start of the rest of the season under De Zerbi.
