James Maddison lauds fans as catastrophic Tottenham relegation avoided
James Maddison has piled the praise on the Tottenham Hotspur fans after Premier League survival was confirmed on Sunday.
Not much more could have gone wrong for Spurs over the course of the season, with the Lilywhites dragged into another relegation battle.
Burning through two managers in Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, Roberto De Zerbi arrived over the international break with the immediate task of keeping Tottenham in the division.
It was not pretty, but that he did, with his side beating Everton 1-0 on the final day of the season.
After a dismal year, De Zerbi and his side can now breathe a big sigh of relief, with the returning Maddison lauding the North London faithful as the term comes to a close.

Tottenham fans played integral role as Tottenham disaster avoided
After missing the majority of the campaign through injury, Maddison returned to the matchday squad last month.
While minutes were hard to come by on his road to recovery, the Englishman provided an impact in his short time on the pitch, with his drive and impetus adding another dimension to the Spurs’ attack.

Tottenham would beat Everton 1-0 on Sunday, meaning that the result between West Ham and Leeds United was covered, thanks to Joao Palhinha’s first-half opener.
As a result, the Lilywhites can now look to put this year in the past.
Taking to Instagram, Maddison said: “Our support is the best out there, and I truly believe that. We wouldn’t have avoided disaster without your spirit and fight in the stadium today.”
Despite racking up just 34 minutes this season, Maddison does remain extremely popular among the fanbase, and he was keen to outline just how happy he is to be fully on the road to recovery.
“A season of recovering from big surgery for me,” he added. “But even in these last few games, I feel pure pride and joy every time I get the opportunity to wear this Spurs shirt.
“Love you all, Tottenham Hotspur. See you next season. Coys.”
Roberto De Zerbi to pray for James Maddison summer recovery
Over the summer, boss De Zerbi will be looking to build something at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, after achieving his initial goal of keeping Spurs in the top flight.
With this in mind, Maddison will be someone he is keeping a close eye on over the summer months, with a starting spot up for grabs as a result of Xavi Simons‘ injury.
When on form, Maddison has proven crucial in a Tottenham shirt, and he has the right character to be a central player in the reset.

However, there is still a way to go with his full recovery.
The coming pre-season is arguably the most important that Maddison will have – the same can be said for Spurs in general.
If he is to get back to full fitness, he will be integral to De Zerbi’s future plans. Though the injury woes must now become a thing of the past, alongside what has been a dismal 18-month period for the North London club.
