Gary Neville calls out Tottenham ‘disgrace’ ahead of Everton clash, he couldn’t be more right

Gary Neville did not hold back in his assessment of Tottenham Hotspur‘s latest dreadful Premier League campaign ahead of facing Everton.

Spurs head into the final round of fixtures on Sunday knowing they can still be relegated for the first time since 1977.

The Lilywhites need a point at home to Everton to stay afloat should West Ham United beat Leeds United at the London Stadium.

Roberto De Zerbi has been an improvement on Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, but the Italian still has work to do.

And Neville has now hit the nail on the head when it comes to his view on Tottenham and what has been a shambolic season.

Nowhere to hide for Tottenham as relegation still possible

Tottenham’s owners will be most to blame if relegation does happen, with the Lewis Family taking their eyes off the ball.

That is not to say those aforementioned previous managers, plus pretty much the entire playing squad, are devoid of blame.

As pointed out by Neville live on Sky Sports on Sunday, however, it is the supporters who will be made to suffer the most.

“They deserve this, Tottenham, for the decisions made over the past couple of years,” he said. “I know they won the Europa League last year, which was an amazing occasion.

“But where they’ve been in the league for the past couple of years is an absolute disgrace considering the amount of money they’ve got and the stature of the club.

“They’ve let every one of the 60,000-odd people down in this stadium for a while now and the players could get their comeuppance today. But it’s the fans who suffer.”

The stats certainly do not lie when it comes to highlighting just how bad Tottenham have been over the past two seasons.

Should the best-case scenario happen and Spurs remain where they are, it will mark the first time they have finished as low as 17th in successive seasons for the first time since 1915.

That’s right. It has been over a century since Tottenham were consistently this bad.

Tottenham closing in on unwanted home record

Spurs’ atrocious home form has been well documented and goes a long way to explaining why they are there they are in the table.

Tottenham are only kept off the bottom of the table by relegated Burnley in terms of home results in the Premier League.

They have 12 points from a possible 54 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Should that become 13 points – or 15 – from 57 then it would be enough to keep Spurs up by the skin of their teeth.

Indeed, Tottenham are winless in their last 10 home league games, which is their second-longest run in their league history after a 14-game streak between October 1993 and April 1994.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now, dating back to last season, with Spurs losing 4-1 to Brighton on the final day of the 2024-25 campaign.

Not since 2010 have Tottenham last their final league match in consecutive campaigns, and they need to hope that is not the case on Sunday or else the worst-case scenario of relegation will very much be on.
