Tottenham injuries: Perfect reset point already there for Roberto De Zerbi as investigation underway

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury problems have been the backbone of their poor form throughout the season.

While managerial decisions have of course played a key role, the N17 outfit has picked up plenty of injuries that have halted momentum.

It is now two seasons in a row where this has been a continued problem, and ahead of next season, it is said an investigation is underway to find the root cause.

Roberto De Zerbi will also be keen to address the plague that has effectively limited the Lilywhites in all competitions.

Additionally, ahead of the campaign in 2026-2027, having no European football may be key to keeping Tottenham’s injuries down, as this season has shown.

What example do Tottenham have to fix injury concerns?

Next season, Tottenham will be hoping to have a similar level of comeback as Manchester United had this season, with the injury crisis just one of the issues De Zerbi must solve at Tottenham.

Last campaign, the Red Devils finished on just 42 points, one more than Tottenham finished on this season. Now, they will be back in the Champions League after securing a third place finish.

However, what is most notable about their rise back to the top is the impact that playing just one game a week has had.

In 2024-2025, Manchester United were fifth for days lost to injury, with 1295, and also fifth for games missed at 156.

However, this season, according to Transfermarkt, those games missed this season dropped to just 96.

With fewer injuries, De Zerbi could continue the work that had his side projected to finish in the top six.

Of course, the Red Devils did end up playing fewer games in total this season, but the stat is still positive for Tottenham fans to hear.

Furthermore, players such as Luke Shaw, who have had various injury problems over the years, have been able to remain fit for the entire campaign.

The Englishman started and played every Premier League fixture this season. Perhaps being out of Europe next season could arrive with a blessing.

Tottenham will conduct an investigation into what has caused their woes over the last two seasons, but having no Europe might be the perfect reset point.

Will Tottenham have a fully fit squad heading into pre-season?

Pre-season will be very important for Tottenham, who will need to start it as a means to go on. The fitness built up during that period will be the foundation for the season to come.

However, not every player will be available. Xavi Simons’ ACL tear at the end of the season means he will be out for a substantial period, with a preliminary return date of early 2027.

Wilson Odobert is in the same boat, but he will be eyeing a return in late 2026.

Dejan Kulusevski is still sidelined, and with limited information on his status, it is hard to adjudge as to whether he will finally be back to playing.
