Spurs Fantasy Premier League guide: Who’s the most selected and who do I simply have to pick?

Tottenham players should have more appeal in the Fantasy Premier League this season as they adjust to life under Thomas Frank.

Tottenham possessed quality options last term, but due to injuries and poor form, they were not in demand.

Last season, Brennan Johnson was the highest scoring Spurs player in FPL, having notched 137 points, which is less than half what Mohamed Salah achieved.

However, the Lilywhites are expected to improve next term, and with most of their key players fit, they possess some eye-catching options.

Dominic Solanke the most expensive Spurs player

Solanke will miss Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup final clash with PSG, meaning he could be a doubt for the Premier League opener against Burnley.

The striker was Ange Postecoglou’s first-choice striker last season, but he failed to hit the heights expected of him.

Last term, the 27-year-old notched 12 goal contributions in the Premier League, with just nine goals to his name.

This season, Solanke is the most expensive Spurs player and is priced at £7.5million, which is £1m less than what Son Heung-min would have cost if he remained in North London.

The Englishman currently has an ownership of 8.6 per cent, meaning he represents an alternative to more premium picks.

However, the yellow exclamation mark next to his name means it would be wise to steer clear of the forward until he is fit.

Which Tottenham players should I pick?

Given that Dejan Kulusevski (£6.5m) is also on the Spurs sidelines, the Lilywhites’ defence has greater appeal.

Of course, it would be right to point out that the North London club had the fifth-worst defence in the Premier League last season, but it was an anomaly.

Micky van de Ven (£4.5m) and Cristian Romero (£5m) are obvious options, given that they are set to start in the hub of Frank’s defence.

The Dutchman, in particular, offers superb value for money, but with an ownership of 20.3 per cent, he is already highly sought after.

Although Romero is a tad more expensive, he is essentially a differential as he can only be found in 1.8 per cent of FPL squads.

Given that Tottenham kick off their season against Burnley (H), there is the likelihood of a clean sheet on the opening day.

Defenders boosted by new FPL point-scoring metric

With the introduction of ‘defensive contributions’ as a point-scoring metric, Spurs fans might be more inclined to pick defenders in FPL.

Guglielmo Vicario, who is set to be number one, will score points for saves and accumulate bonus points through that.

Previously, defenders had to contribute in the attack or keep clean sheets to score points, but this season, FPL have added a new way to score so that defenders can add more importance to your team.

And attackers?

Tottenham completed the £55m signing of Kudus from West Ham, and he is primed for a return to form this term.

The winger would be a solid pick, and at £6.5m, you would not need to break the bank to have him in your team.

Last season, Kudus notched 106 points in FPL, but the season before, he tallied 137 points, with 17 goal contributions.

Mathys Tel (£6.5m), Richarlison (£6.5m), and Wilson Odobert (£5.5m) could benefit from a start in Tottenham’s first match, but would not be viable long-term options.

Elsewhere, Joao Palhinha, Lucas Bergvall, and Rodrigo Bentancur (all £5.5m) could benefit from the new defensive points system, given their combative styles in midfield.

Van de Ven is Spurs’ low-cost gem in FPL

Van de Ven will not have to bear the Tottenham burden next season, given the players the North Londoners have signed.

At £4.5m, the Dutchman is an absolute steal, and considering his quality, pace, and value, he is simply a must-have.

By owning the centre back from the start, you would have the likelihood of an opening day clean sheet, which could see his price rise immediately.

Moreover, he is one of a host of players who will benefit from the new defensive points system, meaning he can produce big returns.

Of course, there is always the risk of injury with Van de Ven, but given how many free transfers you can accumulate, he is worth the risk – he has to be picked.

Should I get Spurs players in my team right away?

With Tottenham kicking off the season against Burnley, the answer is yes.

A home game against a promoted side is always the dream fixture, and there is a promising chance for substantial points hauls.

Spurs then face Man City (A), Bournemouth (H), and West Ham (A), emphasising the appeal of their players.

Although Frank’s squad are no guarantee for returns, they have the fixtures to bag those valuable early-season points.
