View: Vincent Kompany can inspire Tottenham attack next season if he’s hired

There’s a good chance that some Tottenham fans will squirm at hearing a Burnley manager being linked with being the new manager in North London.

But Vincent Kompany’s brand of football at Turf Moor this season has been a far cry from the survival-at-all-costs approach from now-Everton manager Sean Dyche.

Burnely have won an instant promotion back to the Premier League with the Belgian former Manchester City manager at the helm.

As it stands, the Clarets have six games left to play and out of the 40 they’ve played so far this season, they’ve lost just twice and amassed a stunning 90 points.

Kompany’s leadership and overhaul of all things Burnley at Turf Moor has played a massive role.

According to stats by FBRef, Burnley have generated an xG of just 56.8 this season but have managed to score a whopping 76 goals, outperforming their xG massively.

It means that Burnely are scoring far more than they’re expected to because they’ve turned into a clinical force in front of goal.

Stats by WhoScored show that the Clarets have averaged 64.2 per cent possession in their Championship matches this season – the highest in England’s second tier.

FBRef shows that the 13.17 shots per 90 minutes ranks the Lancashire club fifth in the Championship byt their goals-per-shot stat of 0.14 leads the way.

Nathan Tella’s 17-goal season is a decent haul but the goals Burnley have scored have been spread throughout their squad. Jay Rodriguez is next with nine, Anass Zaroury and Benson Manuel have seven each, Josh Brownhill has six, Ashley Barnes has five and so on.

In total, Burnley have 19 goalscorers in the Championship this season.

What does this mean for Tottenham, who are reportedly [The Sun] looking at hiring Kompany as a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte?

Harry Kane is one of the best strikers – if not the best – in the world and with Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevksi and Richarlison alongside him in the attack, you’d imagine that Kompany’s efficient form of attack would wreak havoc in the Premier League and potentially Europe.

Spurs’ issues this season mainly come down to a reliance upon Kane because Son’s form has dropped off massively and Kulusevksi and Richarlison have struggled to meet expectations.

Spurs’ goal-to-shot ratio is 0.12 in the Premier League this season despite having Kane. Brentford’s 0.13 is better and, as mentioned, Burnley’s in the Championship is 0.14 [FBRef].

Kompany may have been known as a rock-solid defender in his days at Man City but the Belgian no doubt knows how to inspire an attack force.

In other Tottenham news, David Raya is the perfect Hugo Lloris replacement.
