View: Tottenham must pursue clean sheet king Jan Oblak amid Huge Lloris development
Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window with Hugo Lloris set to depart.
Talking to French newspaper Nice-Matin on 2 June, the 36-year-old confirmed his desire to move on during the off-season. He’s been a fantastic servant during his time in North London, but it’s fair to say he’s now well past his best.
With Ange Postecoglou the man to lead the club forward, a new number one will be near the top of his wishlist. Many names have been bandied about over the past couple of months.

The Sun reported on 5 June that Brentford shot-stopper David Raya is a target. Leeds Live claim on 4 June that 23-year-old Illan Meslier could also be on Spurs’ radar.
However, both names should be behind a previous transfer target who simply has to be the number one choice for Postecoglou.
The Evening Standard reported on 20 January that Jan Oblak was being monitored and the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper would be a superb addition.

He’s been with the Spanish side since 2014 and has been involved in some huge fixtures over the course of the last nine years.
During his time in the Spanish capital, the 30-year-old Slovenian has conceded under 0.7 goals a game (Wyscout). Tottenham conceded 63 goals from their 38 Premier League games during the 2022/23 season. We all know Madrid’s defence is fairly watertight, but, on average, Oblak is expected to concede 0.82 goals per game.
He would be an immediate upgrade to Spurs’ leaky backline.
Therefore, he is saving 0.2 goals per 90 minutes for his side. As per Wyscout, Oblak has prevented 1.34 goals during the 2022/23 season.

With 12 clean sheets from 20 matches in the 2022/23 season, Spurs could certainly do a lot worse, particularly when you consider Lloris’ seven clean sheets from 25 matches.
Tottenham’s potential move for the Slovenian appears to have gone quiet – Postecoglou would be wise to revive it.
He’s been with the Spanish side for a number of years and could well be looking for a change. Furthermore, and remarkably, he’s still only 30, which means he could provide a number of years of service if he does move this summer.
Daniel Levy and the board would be foolish not to explore this move further.
