View: Tottenham ace Manor Solomon showcases his quality on international duty
Tottenham forward Manor Solomon built on his first Premier League start of the season with an impressive display for Israel during their 1-1 draw with Romania, on Saturday 9 September.
When Ange Postecoglou took his Tottenham team to Turf Moor to take on Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, Son-Heung-min was preferred through the middle over Richarlison, leaving a spot open on the left wing.
This spot was filled by Solomon, who Spurs signed on a free transfer during the summer. It was only his second start of the season, and first in the league, however he slotted in seamlessly, laying on two assists for his captain.
And after Son’s hattrick, it is hard to imagine that he will be moved from the central striker position anytime soon, meaning that spot on the left will remain open. This offers Solomon a real opportunity to lock it down as his own, and he did his chance of doing that no harm with a bright display for Israel while on international duty.
He started for his country during their UEFA 2024 European Championship qualifier against Romania, and was influential throughout, helping his nation earn a big point. It is a point that leaves them third in their qualifying group, one point behind their opponents from the evening.
During his 90 minutes on the pitch, the 24-year-old was busy in the attacking areas, registering one shot off-target and seeing another one blocked. He completed five of his seven attempted dribbles and 81 per cent of his passes, with one of those being key (Sofascore).
In the last minute, he played in Gavriel Kanichowsky, whose shot was blocked by Romania goalkeeper Horatiu Moldovan. This would have been a monumental assist, as the goal would have lifted his team above Romania and into the qualifying spots.
Defensively he also put in a shift, winning 12 ground duels and making four tackles throughout the contest.
Solomon will be hoping that Postecoglou liked what he saw back at Hotspur Way.
