View: Tottenham ace Manor Solomon moves one step closer to history on international duty

It was a busy international break for Tottenham forward Manor Solomon, who helped his nation move within touching distance of history, after their Euro 2024 qualifying victory.

Israel have never qualified for the European Championship, and they kept their hopes of finally doing it alive by scoring a 93rd-minute winner during a dramatic 1-0 victory over Belarus in qualifying Group I on Tuesday 12 September.

They built on their previous 1-1 draw with Romania by securing the three points, which keeps them third, one point behind Romania in second place, and three points behind Switzerland, who lead the way. Solomon featured for all 180 minutes of both matches.

Against Romania, he was key, as he completed five of his seven dribbles, 85 per cent of his passes and made four tackles (Sofascore). It was a strong showing which helped his nation earn a valuable point, and he also went close to assisting the winner late on, when he played in Gavriel Kanichowsky, whose shot was blocked by Romania goalkeeper Horatiu Moldovan.

Once again, he had a busy evening against Belarus, seeing two of his shots blocked, while sending another one off target. In addition to this, he completed two of the three dribbles he attempted and completed 82 per cent of his passes, with an impressive six of those being key.

He also provided three accurate crosses into the box, but did unfortunately miss one big chance.

These bright displays will do Solomon the world of good, with a spot on the left wing now seemingly up for grabs with Son Heung-min set to play through the middle.

Ivan Perisic is the other player who could feature there, and Ange Postecoglou would have no doubt been keeping an eye on both stars’ performances while away on international duty as he looks to pick his team for the Premier League’s return, when his side welcomes Sheffield United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 16 September.

In other Tottenham news, John Wenham believes the front three could now be “totally changed.”
