View: Hugo Lloris offered Tottenham exit route as form nosedives in Premier League
Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has been offered a lucrative route away from the Premier League to join the Saudi Pro League this summer, according to The Times.
With his contract entering its final year and declining form over the past few seasons, it might be time for Lloris and Tottenham to part ways.
According to a report from The Times (10 May), a Saudi Pro League club has offered to triple the 36-year-old’s reported £100,000 weekly wage.
The World Cup winner would be the latest big name to join the Saudi Pro League after Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to the Middle East in January.
There is no denying that Lloris has been a loyal servant to Tottenham over the past 11 seasons.
Since making the move from Lyon in 2012 the former French captain has made 447 appearances for Tottenham.
Despite not winning any domestic trophy in that period, the club captain was at times a standout performer and saved his side on many occasions.
However, for several reasons, the shot-stopper has seen a downward trend in his form recently.
Lloris’ save percentage this season is 69.9 per cent per 90 minutes, which is in the lower 35 percentile of European goalkeepers, and he averages 1.34 goals against per 90, according to stats provided by FBREF.
In his most recent appearance, he conceded 5 goals in the first half of a 6-1 mauling at Newcastle and didn’t come out after half-time, being replaced by Fraser Forster.
The injury suffered in that match has kept him out of the last three games, and if that is to be his last appearance in a Spurs shirt it is a sad note to end an overall positive time on, but it is probably in everyone’s best interest for Lloris to say his goodbyes.
In other Tottenham news, it’s time for Harvey White to move on from Spurs.
