Tottenham v Newcastle: Alan Shearer destroys ‘terrible’ Destiny Udogie
Alan Shearer has destroyed Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie after what he saw him do in the 4-0 loss against Newcastle.
Ange Postecoglou’s side visited St James’ Park on Saturday, 13 April, and got outplayed by Eddie Howe’s men.
Udogie, who was one among many Spurs players to put in a poor performance, was rightly criticised by the former Newcastle striker.
For Alexander Isak’s first goal, the 21-year-old lost possession in his half which led to a turnover and the hosts opening the scoring.
Speaking about it on the half-time show on Premier League’s world feed, Shearer said (13 April, 13:24): “Terrible there from Udogie. We can see the space there. From a Tottenham Hotspur point of view, how open they are. Terrible.”
Destiny Udogie lets Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou down v Newcastle
According to Sofascore, not only did he make one error leading to a goal, but his other stats were pretty disappointing as well.
He had a zero per cent cross accuracy as he failed to complete a single one all game.
The Italy international lost his only ground duel and both his aerial duels in what was a shambolic defensive performance.
He even failed to complete a dribble and lost possession eight times and it certainly will not have impressed Ange Postecoglou.
Destiny Udogie has shone for Tottenham this season
Udogie has been a key player for Tottenham in the 2023/24 season, with impressive stats demonstrating his impact.
He has started 28 Premier League games, scoring two goals and providing three assists, showcasing his offensive capabilities as a left-back.
His pass completion has also been impressive at north of 85 per cent – putting him in the 91st percentile of all full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues, per fbref.
The 21-year-old has averaged 3.39 progressive carries, 2.57 touches in the opposition penalty area and 1.39 interceptions per 90 minutes – all numbers putting him in the top 10 per cent of all full-backs in the top five leagues.

The Newcastle display for Udogie, much like the rest of the team, was an aberration, but there were plenty of things to learn from that.
