Tottenham star Dominic Solanke must capitalise on Fulham injury blow

Dominic Solanke must capitalise on Joachim Andersen’s absence when Tottenham host Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs will be looking to get back to winning ways against the Cottagers after their 2-2 UEFA Europa League draw with Roma at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday [28 November].

It was a frustrating evening for Ange Postecoglou, with one player letting his manager down after a “ridiculous” incident.

However, after their 4-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium [23 November], Spurs will be confident of claiming three points against Marco Silva’s side, who have been dealt a severe injury blow ahead of their trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium [1 December].

As per the London Evening Standard [29 November], Andersen will be unavailable for the London derby after suffering an injury in Fulham’s 4-1 Premier League defeat against Wolves at Craven Cottage [23 December].

And one man who will be particularly boosted by that news is Solanke.

Dominic Solanke to return to scoring ways for Tottenham against Fulham?

Andersen has been a key player for Fulham this term. As per fbref, the 28-year-old ranks in the 99th percentile of Premier League defenders this season for the number of long passes he has completed [9.31 per 90] and the number of switches he has played [1.61 per 90].

Andersen also ranks in the 92nd percentile for the number of passes he has played into the final third [7.47 per 90] and the 90th percentile for his progressive passing distance [502.76 yards per 90].

It is clear to see why Spurs are interested in the centre-back [via CaughtOffside, 19 November], who could be available for £30million.

The Dane’s absence will no doubt cause serious disruption to the Fulham backline, which Solanke must look to capitalise on. Spurs’ talisman is without a goal in his last four games for club and country, with the 27-year-old struggling against Roma.

As per Sofascore, Solanke missed two big chances and succeeded with just 25 per cent of his attempted dribbles. In addition, he won just three of his 12 ground duels and lost all six of his aerial duels.

Therefore, it is clear that the striker needs a goal to get his confidence back, and the absence of Andersen should boost the chances of him getting that goal against Fulham on Sunday.
