Tottenham rightly ‘very happy’ with Dejan Kulusevski after 11-key-pass masterclass

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham are delighted with Dejan Kulusevski behind the scenes after his £25.8million permanent move in July, and rightly so after his recent performances.

Tottenham exercised their option to make his loan move permanent in the summer transfer window, and the consistency of his performances has already justified that decision.

A £25.8million price tag seems a bargain in today’s market, and he has been one of the players to make a real difference under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou.

As Romano shared [Twitter, 17 December]: “Spurs are very happy with their investment in Dejan Kulusevski as he’s doing great under Ange.

“He has completed 5 goals and 2 assists this season; he also has created 8 big chances and provided 39 key passes (5th best in the league).”

Aside from the impressive tally of seven-goal contributions in 17 Premier League appearances so far this season raised by Romano, the stats show Kulusevski is actually underperforming given his creative actions on the pitch.

An expected assists tally of 4.13 shows his teammates have let him down in front of goal so far this season, but his five Premier League goals from just 2.40 expected goals show how he makes up for the creative let-down with his consistency in front of goal. [Sofascore]

In his last three league appearances against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and West Ham, the Swedish winger has racked up a total of 11 key passes, 1.63 expected assists, and a 100 per cent long-ball accuracy from five attempts. On top of this, he missed the target with just one of his six attempted shots.

Dejan Kulusevski

Not only do his attacking and creative stats prove how much of an impact he has had on Postecoglou’s side, but the boss will be delighted with his work off the ball as well. A combined seven tackles made over those three games shows how hard he works to track back and help the team out. [Sofascore]

Competing in 45 ground duels against Forest, Newcastle and West Ham, Kulusevski very rarely goes missing in games, with his impact clear to see and justifying the club’s delight at their investment and his recent displays.

Long may this continue.
