Tottenham frustration grows with Manor Solomon still ‘two or three’ weeks away
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will be growing tired of providing journalists with an injury update on Manor Solomon.
By the time Solomon returns to first-team action he will have missed more or less half of the 2023/24 campaign.
His last appearance in a Spurs shirt was when he came off the bench during the 2-1 win over Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 30 September.
Not long after his cameo appearance against the Reds, it was revealed that the 24-year-old had undergone surgery on a knee injury (via BBC Sport, 6 October), and he has not been seen since.
More than four months have now passed and according to Postecoglou’s most recent comments, it appears that the Israel international is still some way away from making his return.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Spurs’ clash with Brighton on Saturday 10 February, the Australian was asked about Solomon and responded (via Football London, 9 February), “He had another procedure on Monday on his knee, nothing major but still looking at another two or three weeks.”
Solomon wait continues at Tottenham
It feels like since Solomon was injured more or less every other first-team star at Tottenham has either been injured themselves, received a suspension or left the club on international duty and returned all before the forward has been able to make his comeback.
Based on Postecoglou’s timeline, Solomon’s return could very easily come in March which would bring his time on the sidelines past the five-month mark.
Just a few weeks ago there was talk that he may return for the FA Cup fourth-round clash with Manchester City on Friday 26 January, although it is now clear that this was a very premature assumption.
Spurs supporters might not remember now, but Solomon actually made a promising start to life at Tottenham.
He came off the bench against Liverpool and completed 100 per cent of his passes with three of those being key while he also won two of his three ground duels (Sofascore).
Solomon wasn’t a regular starter for Postecoglou, but he did feature in five of the club’s first seven games of the Premier League season and proved he could be a very useful option.
When he did start against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday 2 September, he provided two assists in the 5-2 win and played five key passes among the 91 per cent he completed in what was a very impressive performance.
Add to that his four key passes against Sheffield United in the 2-1 win on Saturday 16 September, it is clear that the former Fulham loanee can be a useful creative asset for Spurs.

While frustration will continue to grow over how long it is taking to get him back on the pitch, when he does start playing again he could prove to be a difference-maker in North London between now and the end of the season.
