Thomas Frank shown everything he needs to know about Tottenham star after remarkable stats vs Monaco
Tottenham secured a valuable point in the Champions League with a 0-0 draw away at Monaco on Wednesday night.
The Lilywhites suffered defeat in the Premier League last weekend, but they got themselves back on track with a respectable point away at a team who held Manchester City on their last European outing.
Lucas Bergvall had a difficult night for Tottenham, and the majority of the stronger performances came from within the defensive half of the team.
However, there was one man who stole the show for the North Londoners, and he will have surely proved his point to Thomas Frank.

Guglielo Vicario has to remain as Tottenham number one
Guglielmo Vicario has been under pressure at Tottenham recently after some questionable moments in their recent games.
The N17 outfit have been linked with a move for a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window, with their Italian stopper seemingly going through something of a difficult period of late.
The 29-year-old has seen his ability questioned in recent weeks, but he turned in a phenomenal display on Wednesday night which has served to remind everyone of what he is capable of.
Vicario produced some stunning saves for the visitors, and also commanded his area well.
The gloveman made an eye-catching eight saves from inside the box, including a couple of crucial interventions from point blank range.
Stats | Vicario Total |
Saves | 8 |
Saves Inside Box | 8 |
Goals Prevented | 2.68 |
Punches | – |
High Claims | 1 |
He also finished with a remarkable goals prevented total of 2.68, which was over two entire goals higher than that of his opposite number, making him the game’s best-performing ‘keeper by som distance.
The quality of his performance was also highlighted by Tim Sherwood, who said during the half-time interval on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special (20:51), that Spurs could have been “three or four down” without Vicario.

If Frank did have any concerns regarding Vicario’s position as his number one goalkeeper, those will surely have been alleviated by his display on Wednesday, which showed what a quality option he is once again.

Spurs’ performance vs Monaco is not sustainable
Tottenham’s draw at Monaco was certainly a favourable result given the way that the game unfolded, but it isn’t sustainable for them to continue playing like that in the long term.
Monaco | Stats | Tottenham |
2.47 | xG | 0.87 |
23 | Shots | 11 |
8 | Shots on Target | 2 |
5 | Big Chances | 1 |
43 | Touches in Opposition Box | 20 |
The Lilywhites conceded 23 shots to their hosts on Wednesday night, and Monaco also amassed as eye-catching xG of 2.47, indicating that many of their chances were gilt-edged opportunities.
Vicario’s performance kept his time in the game throughout proceedings, but it isn’t reasonable to expect your goalkeeper to continue to bail you out to that extent every game.
Frank will feel as though his team have got away with one on this occasion, and he will know that they must be better at the weekend if they are to return to winning ways.
