Thomas Frank cannot persist with Kevin Danso after Tottenham calamity vs Chelsea

Thomas Frank has plenty to ponder after Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday.

Tottenham were undone against their London rivals, with Joao Pedro’s first-half goal the difference between the sides.

Jamie Carragher was brutal in his analysis of Tottenham’s defence, and it will surely come under the microscope after the defeat.

Kevin Danso has started the last two matches for Spurs, but his place in the starting line-up must come under question.

Kevin Danso had a nightmare in Tottenham loss to Chelsea

Danso has stepped up for Tottenham, while captain Cristian Romero has been absent with an adductor injury suffered against Aston Villa in October.

However, the Argentinian returned to the bench for the clash against the Blues, and he must be the starter going forward.

Danso won just two of his six aerial duels in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium clash, for a 33 per cent success rate, per Sofascore.

The French defender did not fare much better on the ground, as he won just two of the four duels that he attempted, for a 50 per cent success rate.

He made three clearances, one interception and one recovery and could not even help Spurs to ease the pressure.

When he did attempt to play it long, he was successful with just two of four long balls, for a 50 per cent completion.

Thomas Frank needs to bring Romero back in, and drop Danso

Surely, Frank cannot stick with Danso, and needs to bring Romero straight back in as the Lilywhites face a crucial week.

They host Copenhagen in the Champions League on 4 November before welcoming Manchester United to North London on 8 November.

In the Premier League this season, Romero has a 68 per cent success rate when it comes to ground duels and a 62 per cent completion for aerial duels, per Sofascore.

He also averages 3.4 recoveries, 3.1 clearances and 1.4 interceptions per match, and Frank needs him back in the starting team, as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, Danso will have to make way, because Romero is the better partner for Micky van de Ven, that is clear after the Chelsea loss.
