Richarlison abysmal as unexpected star shines – Tottenham player ratings vs Sunderland

Tottenham continued their underwhelming Premier League form against Sunderland on Sunday.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted Regis Le Bris’ team on 4 January, with Ben Davies getting a rare goal in the first half.

Sunderland had a poor record against Spurs coming into the game, losing 14 of their 16 games away in North London, but managed to get a point in N17 with a 1-1 draw.

Brian Brobbey’s ferocious strike in the 80th minute meant the Lilywhites have won just one of their last five games in the league.

Ben Davies brings stability back to Tottenham vs Sunderland

Davies has been a bit-part player under Thomas Frank and started his first game of the season against Sunderland.

The 32-year-old did well to guide the ball into the back of the net after Micky van de Ven’s shot at the half-hour mark.

Apart from his goal, the Wales international’s defensive contributions were massive, making key clearances and interventions at the back.

It shouldn’t have taken this long for Davies to get an opportunity, and he’s certainly given the former Brentford boss something to think about with his team selection.

Richarlison wasteful in draw vs Sunderland

Frank has had to rely on Richarlison this season, with Dominic Solanke nowhere to be seen due to his injury.

While the 28-year-old has shown glimpses of his quality in recent matches, he was at his worst at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

From the Brazilian striker’s unnecessary acrobatic attempts to poor delivery in the final third, the Danish manager will surely be fuming at the chances that were wasted.

Richarlison invokes mixed feelings among the Spurs fanbase, and it’s evident to see why after his latest display in N17, which can arguably be summed up as abysmal.
