Postecoglou ‘to be concerned’ after Son development away from Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham is hanging in the balance, and it doesn’t look as though Son Heung-min is ready to help after what happened on Thursday.

Postecoglou could be sacked by Daniel Levy if he doesn’t turn things around in the coming weeks.

The Australian’s fears about being removed from his position will no doubt be exasperated by the fact that Levy doesn’t appear to have a shortage of potential replacements for the Spurs job.

Mauricio Pochettino could seal a sensational Tottenham comeback, while Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are also potential options.

Therefore, if Postecoglou is going to keep his job, he will need to start picking up results on the pitch. However, the 59-year-old needs his players for this, and it doesn’t look as though Son is ready to help.

Postecoglou will be concerned about Son

Son’s recent comments are likely to have left Postecoglou furious.

The South Korean admitted in a recent press conference for South Korea that he feels as though he is in the best physical shape of his life and that his lack of minutes in recent months were down to Postecoglou.

Son has played 90 minutes just once for Spurs since 9 February.

However, based on his performance in South Korea’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Oman on Thursday (20 March), it is clear that the 32-year-old perhaps isn’t quite up to scratch.

As per Sofascore, while Son did play three key passes, just one of his six crosses into the box was accurate. In addition, he managed just one shot on target and only succeeded with 60 per cent of his attempted dribbles.

Defensively he won just 60 per cent of his ground duels, and also lost his only aerial duel while conceding possession 19 times.

While a lot of fans might look at this on paper and think it isn’t the worst performance, considering the quality of the opposition he was up against, many would expect Son to do much better and lead his nation to victory.

However, he failed to do this, which will no doubt concern Postecoglou.

Postecoglou needs Son at his best for Tottenham

Postecoglou could be sacked if Spurs don’t win the UEFA Europa League. However, if the North London club are going to end their 17-year trophy drought and save Postecoglou, they will need their big-name players at their best.

There aren’t many bigger players than Son in North London. However, his form doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of improvement, and this will therefore concern Postecoglou.
